Gennady Andreev. On Shalamov's Book
Gennady Khomiakov
V. Shalamov did not bother asking and answering the question about survival in his Kolyma Tales, although, at the same time, there is an answer in his stories, but not one that is thoroughly put together or emphasized...

Correspondence 1977
Gennady Khomiakov - Roman Goul (February 6, 1977)

Correspondence 1979
Gennady Khomiakov - Yuri Ivask (May 18, 1979)

And what should be done with Shalamov? I do not have it. By the way, did you happen to ask Veronika? They probably have it, they will only skimp. I wrote to the capital about Mosty and Shalamov, but did not receive an answer. Maybe this man has left...

Correspondence 1977
Roman Goul - Gennady Khomiakov (February 22, 1977)

I am sending you a list of Shalamov’s stories and an article by Adamovich. As I told you, this list was in the first manuscript. The second manuscript arrived without a list. I do not need to return either the list or the article (I have a copy of the article)...

Correspondence 1975
Gennady Khomiakov - Roman Goul (April 24, 1975)

Gennady Khomiakov - Yuri Ivask (August 19, 1977)

I was intrigued by the words: “I’m waiting for Shalamov.” Is he going to come? As far as I know, he isn’t. I am interested because I am “making” his book. He complained on numerous occasions that Novyi Zhurnal was publishing his stories one at a time...
