Description

“50” is a book by Meduza film critic Anton Dolin, published to mark the author’s fiftieth birthday. The collection includes 50 texts written between 2001 and 2022 for the magazine Iskusstvo kino (Art of Cinema); only one article, on Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, was written specially for the book. Dolin began his professional career with texts in IK, and in 2017 he became its editor-in-chief. “50” gathers articles on a wide range of films: festival and commercial, American and Russian, intimate and epic. Its heroes include Lynch and von Trier, Tarantino and Fincher, Sokurov and German. The book presents both the author’s favorite films and acknowledged audience hits: Joker, Interstellar, There Will Be Blood, Skyfall, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. “50” speaks about the most important themes in world cinema of the last quarter century: freedom and death, violence and madness, the outcast status and vulnerability of the human being.
