Description

Oleg Ladyzhensky's poetry collection is titled Soldiers' Ballad. The ballad genre is lyrical and epic. It combines the incompatible: objective narration and a subjective view from within. In essence, this is now what we are trying to do, having found ourselves in circumstances we thought were impossible. ""Let there be no war,"" we said for many years, with the subtext, ""of course there won't be; it can't be, because it can never be."" But now there is war. And now we need to get to know everything all over again: God, the world, people, ourselves; to look from within and without. This painful realization is the subject of Ladyzhensky's poetry.
