This is a book of memoirs by John Lurie, a jazz saxophonist and film actor who worked for many years with Jim Jarmusch, David Lynch, and Martin Scorsese. John Lurie is an American saxophonist, composer, painter, director, actor, and producer; the founder and leader of the avant-garde jazz ensemble The Lounge Lizards and of the experimental project The Legendary Marvin Pontiac. He appeared in Jim Jarmusch’s Permanent Vacation, Stranger Than Paradise, and Down by Law, and wrote the music for those films and for Mystery Train. He also appeared in David Lynch’s Wild at Heart, Wim Wenders’s Paris, Texas, Abel Ferrara’s New Rose Hotel, and Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ. He is the creator and director of the documentary series Painting with John and Fishing with John, and an avant-garde painter, the author of the humorous painting Bear Surprise, which became famous on the Russian internet under the name “Preved Medved.”
