The book’s protagonist finds his old phone and rereads the text messages still saved on it. Each one brings back memories — enough for a whole novel. And in that novel he could take on the eternal questions: how to live, how to find love, how to make a living from literature while spending no more than two bucks a day, and whether you have to go out to the square to change the government.
Pavel Antipov writes lyrical post-fiction, and this text is speech chasing after life. The authenticity of situations and the quirks of memory, verbal riffing and swings of mood are equally important here.
