Anna Karetnikova. Marshrut. [Place Unidentified]: Freedom Letters, 2026.

Description

For eight years, Anna Karetnikova walked "the route," from cell to cell and office to office, as a member of Moscow's Public Monitoring Commission, with the right to visit pretrial detention centers, temporary holding facilities, and police stations without hindrance. Tragicomic scenes, hysterical monologues, cries of despair, and sudden fits of absurd humor add up to a chronicle of a world most people never see.

The sequel to Marshrut (The Route), Ya — sotrudnitsa FSIN (I Work for the Prison Service), is also published by Freedom Letters. Both books were published with the support of the Memorial Human Rights Centre.
