Description

This is the greatest work written by Kostan Zarian to date—both in terms of its scope and its literary merit.

In the author’s own words, "this novel is not a historical novel in the true sense of the term, but rather a narrative about several Armenian souls destined to live through one of the most fateful periods in the life of our people."

This "MOST FATEFUL PERIOD" refers to the years of the Republic of Armenia’s existence, the tumultuous days surrounding the collapse of Armenian independence, the Sovietization of the country, and the popular uprising in February. Possessing a unique vision and a distinctive writing style, Kostan Zarian captures this era and the fates of these "Armenian souls"—much like a painter applying bold, vivid brushstrokes.

The novel features magnificent descriptions of Armenian landscapes, imbued with fervent love and faith—faith in Armenia, in the great achievements of the Armenian people’s past, and in their great future. At the same time, the work resonates with profound sorrow and indignation over the calamities and suffering unjustly inflicted upon the Armenian people—depicted here with striking, poignant intensity.

Kostan Zarian’s novel is a work of enduring value to Armenian literature.
