Roditel'skii den’ is a piercing novella about war, family ties, duty and love, in which tragedy is interwoven with hope in a complex dialogue between generations. It may be the first example of a new literature that closely echoes the “lieutenants’ prose” — an attempt that draws on Viktor Nekrasov’s masterpiece and continues the tradition of telling a story not about an event but from inside it: inside an ordinary, distributed and fractured life in which there are a father and son, both named Petrov.
