Isaiah Berlin. Russian Thinkers. Edited by Henry Hardy and Aileen Kelly. New York: Penguin Books, 1994

Description

The theme that links these essays is the phenomenon of the Russian intelligentsia, which Isaiah Berlin describes as “the largest single Russian contribution to social change in the world.” As one of the most outstanding liberal intellectuals of the twentieth century, Berlin brings to his portraits of Russian thinkers a unique perception of the social and political circumstances that produced figures such as Herzen, Bakunin, Turgenev, Belinsky, and Tolstoy.
