У маім рэйтынгу найлепшых вынаходніцтваў чалавецтва горад займае другое месца пасля водаправоду. Мне не хапае ведаў ды імпэту пісаць пра водазабеспячэнне, таму я пішу пра горад, які ўяўляю сабе крыху лепей. Але пра ваду тут таксама будзе, бо вада нараджае горад.

Гэтая кніга не прэтэндуе ні на гістарычнае даследаванне, ні на турыстычны гайд. Тэксты, сабраныя ў ёй, — маё жыццё, мае дзевяностыя і мой гімн суб’ектыўнасці. Тут будзе толькі пра важнае для мяне як для адной з тысяч жыхарак і жыхароў Віцебска.

In my ranking of humanity’s greatest inventions, the city comes second only to running water. I lack the knowledge and the drive to write about water supply, so I am writing about the city, which I understand a little better. But there will be water here too, because water gives birth to a city.

This book claims to be neither a historical study nor a tourist guide. The texts collected in it are my life, my nineties and my hymn to subjectivity. It deals only with what matters to me as one of the thousands of residents of Viciebsk.
