Pavel Zaltsman. Sny. Tel Aviv: Babel Books Tel Aviv, 2023.
Description

Pavel Zaltsman (1912-1985), an artist and student of the futurist painter Pavel Filonov, was drawn into the literary world by the avant-garde group OBERIU. Throughout his life, Zaltsman visited and revisited his dreams - in besieged Leningrad, on the long evacuation route to Almaty, and after the war, when Kazakhstan became his new home.

This collection published by Babel covers all these periods of Zaltsman's life and the corresponding bits of reality and surreality that he witnessed so that, unlike the OBERIU artists, he could survive to convey them to the reader in full. In Zaltsman's sure hands, dreaming becomes a powerful wellspring for fully-fledged work - be it a painting, poem, or story.
