I immigrated to NYC from Turkmenistan when I was only 5 years old, and in an effort to integrate with American culture, unfortunately lost ties to my Russian or post-Soviet roots. Now that I’m older, I’m trying to reconnect with them through literature. A senior at Hunter College, I major in linguistic anthropology, with a focus on language acquisition, bilingualism and gesture as a means of communication.
