Emilia Legnavska is a researcher, translator, and Slavist specializing in Eastern and Central Europe. Based at the University of Vienna, her research focuses on the contact and interaction between the Rusyn language and Russian, examining sociolinguistic, historical, and structural aspects of this relationship within the broader Eastern European context. Beyond her research, she is active as a translator and linguist, contributing to academic exchange and access to lesser-studied Slavic languages. Her interests include minority language preservation, standardization processes, and the status of Eastern Slavic varieties such as Rusyn across Ukraine, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, and the Western Balkans. Her interests also include the history of Central and Eastern Europe and Slavic folklore. She speaks English, Slovak, Czech, German, Russian and Latvian.
