For some reason, Shalamov is being late. I am waiting for the proofs.

I have not received any news from Roman Goul about Shalamov’s Kolyma memoirs. Maybe you know who has the full text of these notes? I am very eager to print them in Polish.

And what should be done with Shalamov? I do not have it. By the way, did you happen to ask Veronika? They probably have it, they will only skimp. I wrote to the capital about Mosty and Shalamov, but did not receive an answer. Maybe this man has left...

With greatest interest I have read in Nowy Journal works of Schalamov “Kalymskie Zapiski” [sic!].   

It is not only a document but also excellent literary work. Have you got the “Zapiski” as a whole book[?] If so I should be glad to have the full manuscript or Xerox copies...

I very much regret that Szalamov’s manuscript need a serious adjustment and the Xerox copy is so bad. For these reasons I have, unfortunately, resign from the plan of publication in Polish, at least at present. It is possible that I shall return to this project later on...
