This poetic narrative (poem) by Shiraz is dedicated to the Armenian Genocide.
This poetic narrative is a storm—a Shirazian storm—that sings of the suffering of the Armenians, roaring, lamenting, rustling, and radiating.
There is a faith as enduring as Mount Masis in the eternity of the Armenian people, expressed through “the clustering of stars” (to use Shiraz’s own term, p. 79).
One can only wonder why this work was not published in Armenia and why its manuscript found its way to Tehran (to the daily newspaper Aliq), from where it is reprinted here.
Works bearing the characteristics of this poem have been published in Yerevan, and this poem does not depart significantly from them.
In any case, for Armenian readers, reading The Armenian Dantean will be a rare delight.
